Las Vegas Wedding Unity Candle Ceremony
Should you have a Unity Candle for Your Las Vegas Wedding?
You’re probably wondering whether or not you want to have a Unity Candle at your wedding. Does this tradition suit the two of you? Is this something that is standard for a Las Vegas Wedding? And if we decide to do it, then how do we do it? We will address the tradition of the Unity Candle and include the pros and cons so that you can make the right decision!
The tradition of the Unity Candle
The unity candle is relatively new to the wedding scene, having made its way into wedding ceremonies about 30, maybe 40 years ago. It seems to be principally an American idea. The gesture represents the uniting of the two families or of the two becoming one. The latter being more of a Christian idea.
Does this belong at our Las Vegas Wedding?
Many couples choose to symbolize their union with the unity candle ceremony. Your Las Vegas Wedding should be able to accommodate this traditional element if it is something that the two of you decide to do.
How does the unity candle work?
Generally, the unity candle ceremony uses two taper candles with a large pillar candle (called the “unity candle”) in the center. At the beginning of the wedding ceremony, the minister will call upon a representative from each family (this will typically be the mothers, but anyone the couple chooses is fine) to come up to light the two taper candles. After the formal vows of the ceremony, the minister will instruct the couple to use the tapers to light the unity candle together.
Will the Unity Candle make it a better ceremony?
Essentially, no. It will not make it a better ceremony. It may add an element to the ceremony that would otherwise not be there, however, the vows that are exchanged tend to cover the same ideas and statement that would come from the unity candle ceremony. Nevertheless, if it is something that the couple really wants to incorporate into their ceremony then by all means they should do it!
